Test Description


To simulate real accident situations with overturning vehicles different rollover crash tests have been established. In addition to the mandatory "FMVSS208 rollover" there is the embankment rollover, corkscrew rollover, soil trip rollovers, curb trip rollover and the sand pit rollover. Rollover tests are carried out primarily in order to analyze the stability of the vehicle structure, the biomechanical load of passengers or the protection systems, such as airbags.

 

Test Procedure


For the embankment rollover the test vehicle is running at an acute angle to a slope or ditch. Once the vehicle is on a slope a movement of the steering wheel is initiated, which finally brings the vehicle to the side overturning.

To generate the steering angle during the embankmant rollover the VEHICO steering robot CS-B is an ideal solution. A trigger mark fixed to the slope starts the steering wheel actuation at the exact right time. The VEHICO steering robot has no moving parts such as fans or hard disks, making it enormously resistant to any vibrations and accelerations caused by the rollover test.
